Ream’s bittersweet relocation

Ream’s Elburn Market is a popular store in Elburn. The market recently announced that they will be relocating to the large building previously known as Papa G’s restaurant.
Opened in 1954, Ream’s has been the go-to meat market for locals in the Elburn community. Owner Randy Ream started working in the meat market when he was 6 years old and started out doing small jobs such as sweeping the floor. Eventually him and Janelle Ream took over the family company. He knew because of the business’ success, they were going to have to expand.
“I’ve known that we needed to do this for the past twenty years. We are getting more and more business and can’t keep up with the growth,” said Ream.
Ream’s meat market has more than 40 employees and will be expecting more job openings due to the expansion. The store will not being closed for any period of time during the construction.
“I’m excited. It will be more spacious and make things go smoother behind the counter. Customers will have more space and it will be less hectic,” employee Julie Suto said.
However, some locals have mixed feelings about the change.
“I think the bigger facility will be good but they will lose a lot of the reason why people go there. They go there for the feel of the place,” local customer Bryan Quick said.
Some locals agreed with Quick saying that they wish for everything at the new location to be identical to the old building they love.
Other customers think the change will be nothing but beneficial.
“I think it’s awesome. They have a giant amount of clientele and I see nothing wrong with this,” local customer Vanessa App said.
The new opening will allow more appliances and varieties of food due to more space. The LED lighting and one floor setup will make the company more energy efficient.
“We will be able to take a lot of old ideas we had and make them happen. We will be a greener business,” Ream said.
