Royal tour kicks off in New Zealand
April 16, 2014
The royals are at it again. H.R.H. Prince William and his wife Catherine, better known as Kate or the Duchess of Cambridge, have embarked on their royal tour of New Zealand. Maybe one of the more interesting points on this tour will be the showcasing of the new prince, eight-month-old George.
The royals made their first stop at New Zealand’s capital of Wellington, stepping out with great enthusiasm and charisma. All attention was on George, as this is the first time since his birth that he has been on a royal engagement for all eyes to see. The entrance included a special ceremony and an inspection of a guard of honour.
April 9 marked the first official engagement for Prince George. The Cambridge’s visited the Government House for a royal playdate. The event was for Plunket nurses, an organization that provides health care and support to new families, and families with young children. This posed the perfect opportunity for George’s first big engagement, one of many others to come in his lifetime.
The following day, the Duke and Duchess attended a wreath-laying ceremony and a commemoration at a World War II memorial. Afterwards at a state reception, notable events included the unveiling of a new portrait of Queen Elizabeth and a speech by William.
Day 7 included attending a wine-tasting, a white water raft ride, and visiting a primary school, while the eighth day of the tour included a croquet match.
The family will ended the New Zealand portion on April 16. The day began with the couple meeting recruits and paying respects to officers killed on duty. After a short walk through the Civic Centre, the family departed for Australia on a Royal Australian Air Force aircraft from Military Terminal, Wellington Airport.
