School Board Discusses Progress for 2020

Superintendent Dr. Todd Leden reports on Kaneland 2020’s progress.

On Monday, August 27, the District 302 Board Meeting focused on the District’s 2020 plan along with the East Gym renovations and a literacy program spreading across the district.

The Board started by stating that last year 30 teachers started the new personalized learning initiative and are being called “IgKnighters.” Since it proved to be successful last year, they have continued to follow up with it. If all goes well, they will expand their teaching plan to the entire district.

The East Gym, which has been a major focus of renovation at the high school, was also discussed. According to the Board, the gym should be completed by the end of the volleyball season.

They also touched on the subject of book banks at local parks around the district. Lions for Literacy, founded in 2012, works to promote literacy and reading to kids. The main idea is that the group sets out book banks in public places and adds books into the holders. When someone passes, they can trade one of their books for a book from the miniature library. Since it has been going well, they hope to continue increasing the amount of book banks along with encouraging a passion for reading.
