On Monday February 29 members of the community came together for a District 302 board meeting held at Harter Middle School in the sixth grade team room.

The meeting started on a light note with board members mentioning the success of Kindergarten registration. Various Harter Middle School staff members were recognized for their help during the event. The board also discussed the upcoming inductions to the hall of fame, the high school state champions, Mr. Kaneland success and the Don Beebe assembly.

Next, the board discussed approval of school fees for the upcoming school year. There was much debate over the fee for driver’s education. Due to law, the board was required to keep the fee at $250 since it is the highest limit possible.

Other fees discussed included an increase in lunch fees. The board agreed to raise the hot lunch fee from $2.70 to $2.80 for students and $3.20 to $3.30 for adults. They ended discussion with topics of sports and activity fees with no changes. The board voted 7-0 to approve all fees.

As the meeting moved on, the board began a series of heavy discussion over the proposal of a new phone system at the High School, Fox Valley Career Center and District Office. Head of Technology Tim Wolf spoke to the board about his recommendation for the choice of system. The board voted 6-1 to approve going forward with the system recommended by Wolf. Pedro Rivas was the only opposing vote.
