Every other Friday students in Kaneland High School gather to share in their love for anime (a style of Japanese animation such as Attack on Titan) and/or science fiction (sci-fi). Sci-Fi/Anime Club is a fairly new club to KHS that is sponsored by school psychologist John Markovich.

Sci-fi/Anime Club is for any student with a love for anime movies, TV shows, comics, games, etc.

Meetings generally consist of students playing card games, watching anime or sci-fi on computers, battling each other on their D.S. game systems and watching anime that is projected on a screen.

“It’s just fun. I love the people being fun and accepting,” sophomore Brandon Daw said.

Members meet every other Friday in the library from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m.

“It’s a place where I hope students feel welcome. We’re like a big family,” Markovich said.

2014 graduate Chris Hernandez and current senior Sabrina Watts started the club last year by writing a proposal.

“They were reminding me about it every day and the rest is history,” Markovich said.

Markovich hopes to go on field trips with the club, have a movie night and compete with other clubs.
