Sugar Grove will soon be one of the many towns to receive “freaky fast delivery,” when its newest restaurant, Jimmy John’s, opens.
The sandwich chain will be built in the end unit of “The Shops of the Landings,” located at 472 N. Route 47, a building with a total of 1,450 square feet, and will be opening March 1 of next year.
According to Mike Ferencak, Sugar Grove village planner, the building was originally constructed in 2007 and was finally approved. They built it with a drive-thru, planning for it to be a restaurant, but the village wasn’t sure what was going to be there. Jimmy John’s came to Sugar Grove asking to use that space.
Jimmy John’s is a nationwide franchise. The Sugar Grove location will join others nearby in Sycamore, Geneva, Aurora and South Elgin.
“It’s never entirely clear what [Sugar Grove] did to get [Jimmy John’s] here—they make their own decision, but we have to keep our standards up to get more businesses to continue to come,” Ferencak said.
Dan Leuer, the owner of the new Jimmy John’s franchise, said he is happy to be in Sugar Grove.
“We are super excited for our company to grow,” Leuer said.
The village is growing as well.
Currently, Sugar Grove has three pizza places, Subway, McDonald’s, All-American BBQ, and The Fireside Grille, to name but a few. Ferencak said the village hoped that the new businesses would attract more businesses to the town.
“It will potentially cause more business to come to [Sugar Grove],” Ferencak said. “It has been said that McDonald’s did that because right after it was built, Jimmy John’s popped up.”
A typical build-out can take up to 90 days to complete, depending on many variables such as the structure and location of the building, and Jimmy John’s estimates that it costs between $305,000 and $485,000 to start up a new location.
Freshman Kelsey Lancaster, a resident of Sugar Grove, said she is very excited to have another nice place to eat and deliver food.
“With another place besides pizza places that deliver, Jimmy John’s will have a good business,” Lancaster said. “I like it because it gives more places and things to do and eat at in Sugar Grove. With the community growing, it is becoming a great convenience for the people that live in Sugar Grove.”
