On Nov. 13, three Kaneland athletes signed with their future colleges, planning to play softball for the next four years. Friends and family watched as seniors Lanie Callaghan, Lexi Roach and Lauren Zick signed their contracts in the library during eighth hour.

All of the girls are going to different colleges, but planning on playing the same sport. Callaghan is attending Valparaiso University next fall.

“I am looking forward to my new teammates and coaches because they’re amazing,” Callaghan said.

Playing travel softball since the second grade, Callaghan’s family and friends have been a strong support system for her.

“My parents and brothers have been super supportive with my whole commitment and signing process. They were so happy, my mom was shaking when she faxed the papers over,” Callaghan said.

In addition to Callaghan, Roach is also signing with a Division I athletic school. She is attending Youngstown State University next year. Roach has been playing softball for nine years and is looking forward to starting a new chapter.
“I wouldn’t be near where I am today without my family and friends. Through all the freezing cold games and the super hot games, my family has been there from day one. I’m really thankful for such an awesome support system,” Roach said.

As for Zick, she is playing softball at St. John’s University. Like the two previous girls, Zick will be playing at a Division I athletic school. Zick has been playing softball for 11 years now, and says she’s looking forward to being able to play at the hightest possible level.

“Next year we’re going to play in a tournament in Puerto Rico,” Zick said.

All of these athletes have worked hard and spent many hours on the softball field. They’ve all proved that their dedication has paid off as all three of them signed with Division I athletic schools. They will continue their softball careers the upcoming fall as they venture into the next stage of their lives.
