The importance of the school library

The KHS library is used as a workplace for the student body.

Every year students are told that the library is an essential part of our school, but many tend to overlook just how important it truly is.

“I think that the library is the hub of the school. The library is a central point to enhance curriculum,” KHS librarian Lorna Code said.

With an estimated 800 students coming into the library each day, the library is a necessary part of our school. Code makes sure to keep the library stocked up on books, both nonfiction and fiction. She has to do lots of research to find popular fiction books, such as Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, as well as nonfiction books that match up with the curriculum.

Senior Jonathan Heuman helps out in the library. He is among the many students who have discovered what the library has to offer.

“I never really came to the library. One day I came and they had Dragonball Z books. I just kind of stayed,” Heuman said.

Students also find the library useful for research, not only in the books, but also on the computers.

“We do a lot of research. The computers have a lot of programs and stuff. It’s cool,” sophomore Sarah Ball said.
