As an avid reality TV watcher, this season of Love Island seemed like it was made for me. Iain Stirling’s one liners were a highlight, as well as Ariana Maddix’s relatable hosting. I appreciated how Maddix kept the audience in mind when hosting and added to the drama of the show. During one recoupling, a contestant named Aaron told another contestant named Kaylor that they would discuss their conflict later but Maddix said, “I have all of the time in the world.” It truly felt like Maddix was enjoying the show just as much as the rest of us.
This season was full of hilarious moments: Rob’s overalls, Kaylor’s tears, Connor walking like the terminator, Kendall’s catchphrase and the way Jana said Kenny.
Some of my favorite parts of the season are the whole Rob and Leah storyline, especially when Rob jumps into the pool to hide from everyone. I also enjoyed Jana’s journey from self doubt to a strong connection.
Aside from the obvious romantic relationships shown on the show, this season had a very close group of girls that reminded me of my friend group.
“I’ve never had sisters, but now I feel like I have sisters for life” Liv Walker, a contestant on Love Island USA season 6 said.
This season had a perfect storyline. Serena and Kordell were unintentionally matching during the first episode and they ended up winning the season. One of the funniest parts of the season was when Kordell tried to give both Serena and Daia breakfast at the same time and Serena pushed it back on him. Later, Kordell delivered breakfast to Serena by holding the plate with tongs. I liked how their story had ups and downs but they found their way back to each other.
The best thing about this season is how real it feels. Even though producers obviously have some effect on the show, the cast of this season acted like nobody was watching, and in former seasons, most people weren’t. I was extremely excited to see the amount of new fans watching the 6th season of Love Island USA, even if they weren’t there for the iconic villa on a Las Vegas rooftop. This season of Love Island had twice the amount of ratings than the previous year.
This season is like Love Island season five. In both seasons, the casts seemed to be there to find love and explore connections rather than brand deals and Instagram followers. People in recent seasons of Love Island stick with one person and try not to cause problems in the villa. In this season of Love Island USA, the contestants weren’t afraid to make waves and they weren’t as focused on what the public thinks of them.
If you can get through the awkward lip-sync and dance sequence in the first episode, I highly encourage you to watch this season of Love Island USA.
