The boys basketball team started off their season in the Ken Peddy Windmill City Classic tournament hosted by Batavia. The tournament did not go as the team would have liked it to go, only winning one out of four games. The Knights started the tournament defeating Marine Military Academy 66-42, but losing a close game to St. Francis 44-50. The team also lost to Batavia 30-59 and Wheaton Warrenville South 45-68.

Juniors Mitchel Groen and Dylan Vaca both agree that they can have a successful season learning from this tournament because it is very early in the season.

Coach Brian Johnson stated that Vaca and Groen were two important players during the tournament.

“Teams started to pick up on Dylan and face guard him,” Johnson said.

Vaca was a leading scorer for the Knights, while Groen played with energy and good defense.

“The team’s shooting was good, we just need to work on finding the open shots,” Vaca said.

Groen also agreed that the teams’ execution was well, but needed to be more consistent. Johnson expects to have a good season after seeing what work needs to be done and how the team can improve overall.

“We need to work on defense and taking care of the ball,” Johnson said.

Although the tournament did not go their way, Johnson, Groen and Vaca know that hard work will result in a good season. The team will work on defense and playing hard to achieve their goal.

“We need to get back at it at practice and we can have a successful season,” Groen said.
