Kaneland High School girls varsity basketball team faced Rosary High School Friday, February 17, at their regional championship game held at IMSA.  As always, the rowdies traveled to support the team at regionals.

The girls started out strong and the defense was impressive, holding Rosary to 4 points in the 1st Quarter, the Knights lead 12—4 after the first quarter.

Jenni Weber came out shooting and hit her first shot.  Her record breaking 65th 3-pointer of the year.  The previous single season record for 3 pointers was 64.  She added another 3-pointer in the first half. She set the bar high with 67 three pointers so far this season. However, Weber was more proud of other accomplishments

“I don’t really care about the record. It was fun, but I was more excited about the regionals, “Weber said.

Rosary had no answer for the speedy junior point guard, Jamie Martens.  Martens finished the night with 21 points.  She continually got around the defender and drove for many layups.

“Well it’s really cool to have won and gotten the plaque, especially because nobody on our team has gotten one for basketball,”  Martens said.

The Knights lead the entire game and convincingly beat Rosary 51-33 Friday night in the championship game.  Kaneland (22-6) now move on to the sectionals where they will play Rock Falls in the semifinals on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at home.
