MLB Postseason Pick ’em
October 4, 2016
AL Wild Card:
Toronto over Baltimore
While the Orioles have a very fun offense to watch that is largely powered by the home run ball, Toronto outclasses them in almost every way including one of the better pitching staffs in the AL including young stars Marcus Stroman and Aaron Sanchez.
NL Wild Card:
Mets over Giants
The Giants have a better overall team than the Mets with better hitting and a much deeper starting rotation, but a good start by Noah Syndergaard is all the Mets will need to win in the one game set.
ALDS1:
Texas over Toronto
A rematch of last seasons ALDS will bring the fireworks to both sides after all the drama in the ALDS last year and during their regular season series. Despite the Rangers benefitting from a lot of luck this year the pitching of Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels will be all they need to move on.
ALDS2:
Indians over Red Sox
Both teams are coming off years where they finished around .500 and have managed to win their respective divisions. The Indians have suffered through many injuries this year including season ending injuries to key players like Carlos Carrasco and Michael Brantley, but their superior pitching and baserunning will lead them to the ALCS.
NLDS1:
Cubs over Mets
In a rematch of last seasons NLCS the Cubs will get their revenge and knock the Mets out. The Mets have struggled mightily with injuries to their pitching staff as they have lost Steven Matz, Jacob De Grom, Matt Harvey for the season and along with an offense than ranks them towards the bottom of the league gives them a tough challenge. The Cubs with NL MVP Kris Bryant and two top contenders for the Cy Young award make them overwhelming favorites to advance.
NLDS2:
Dodgers over Nationals
The Dodgers have one of the best pitching staffs in the National League, and the combination of Clayton Kershaw, Rich Hill, and Kenta Maeda at the top of their rotation will give Nationals hitters like Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman fits. The Nationals lack of depth this series will ultimately do them in.
ALCS:
Indians over Rangers
The Indians have been carried by their great pitching and despite a few blows to their depth still have a good rotation and an excellent bullpen. Their offense ultimately will outclass the Rangers pitching staffs lack of depth and send the Indians to the World Series for the first time since
1997.
NLCS:
Cubs over Dodgers
Ultimately this series will come down to which pitching staff blinks first. The Cubs have arguably one of the greatest pitching staffs of all time and the Dodgers have an excellent rotation as well. Ultimately the Cubs star power on offense and their ability to grind out at bats will pay them big dividends and end their 71 year World Series appearance drought.
World Series:
Cubs over Indians
The two longest active World Series droughts will stand head to head as the Cubs haven’t won since 1908 and the Indians since 1948. Both teams have been led this far by their pitching, but the Indians have so many question marks with Corey Kluber and Danny Salazars health in question it will be the Cubs that will be celebrating on the streets.
