The boys track team participated in Kiwani’s Invitational at East Moline on Saturday, April 11.

They team placed fourth — just 39 points away from first — with great success came many personal bests for some individual runners.

Junior Tanner Robertson won the 300 meter intermediate hurdles, being the first Kaneland runner to win that event at the Kiwani Invite.

“It was nice to win, but not really the time I wanted. I know I need to keep working hard to get the time I want,” Robertson said.

Being the first outdoor meet, Robertson thought the meet went really well. He keeps expecting improvement as the season goes on.

“I think we can work a little harder in practice and understand we will not always have the best times but not to get disqualified and be smart on and off the track,” Robertson said.

The team did not only succeed in track events, but they performed well in field events. Junior John Delach got a personal best in the long jump, jumping 20 feet five inches.

“I was really happy and excited about it,” Delach said.

Delach also thinks continuing to work hard in practice will help the team improve. He hopes to get more personal records in the long jump and better his time in the 4×1 relay.

Head coach Eric Baron thought the meet went really well and the team could have been closer to first place if everyone was healthy.

“This is a young team that will only get better as the season goes on. As we gain experience I think we can compete for County, Conference and Sectional titles again this season,” Baron said.
