Over spring break, the KHS varsity softball team took part in a tournament featuring a variety of high schools around the country in Clarksville, Tennessee.

“The team goes to different tournaments over spring break every year because it gets the team ready for the season and it is very good bonding time for the team,” Varsity Head Coach Brian Willis said.   Even though the team finished the tournament 1-3, lots of positives were taken from the games.

In the first game, Kaneland fell 3-2 in a gut wretching game that came down to the last out.

Same for the second game when Kaneland fell again 3-2.

“We did really well coming back into both games in the last inning of each game. It really showed what we needed to work on and what weaknesses we have in crucial situations,” senior Lanie Callaghan said.

Kaneland followed two tough games by winning the next game 4-0.

Following the win was a tough loss in which Kaneland fell 4-0.

“It was a tough game but many positives can be taken from it. These games will definetly help us in the long run and the level of competition we faced will really help our team improve,” junior captain Paige Kuefler said.

After the weeks tournament, the varsity team looks to bounce back in time for the upcoming season.

“We have been a close team since day one. Everyone stressed that in order to have a successful season we need to be like sisters to each other. After this trip we have become closer in a sense that we know how to lose together as a team and still want to be out there every day playing together,” senior first baseman Hailey Contorno said.
