On October 5, 2013, Anthony Holubecki’s life would change forever. After years of hard work and dedication, Holubecki had done something that not the average high school athlete does in their lifetime.

This day was the most important day in Holubecki’s life; he had officially committed to the University of Notre Dame to further pursue his baseball career.

The right handed pitcher for Kaneland is ranked 46th nationally and fourth in Illinois according to Perfect Game USA, a website that has the official ranking for baseball players. With an above average build and eye popping athleticism, his friends and family were in no shock of his early commitment.

Raving about him, long time friend of Holubecki and catcher, Joe Laudont, focused more on Anthony’s skills and what he brings to the baseball team.

“What is there not to like about him? He has great work ethic and dedication to the team, and then there is obviously his talent,” Laudont said.

What some teammates consider to be the best part about Holubecki, is his humbleness and how he isn’t all about the spotlight.

“He is more supportive, he knows the right things to say when you’re down, and he doesn’t get flustered,” Laudont said.

Head baseball varsity coach Brian Aversa knows the commitment will help Holubecki.

“I think by committing, Anthony will be able to focus more on the most important thing, the game itself,” Aversa said.

He also added how Anthony has been helped by his supportive team.

“I think the team as a whole helps Anthony and his progress. It is an important part of baseball to be apart of a great team.”

When he was asked about what he wanted to accomplish at Kaneland, Holubecki concentrated on what he needed to improve on.

“I want to improve on my outfielding and hitting, and win a state title before I graduate,” Holubecki said.

For someone who is starting to worry about his collegiate career and developing skills for the professional level, Holubecki seems to care most about his teammates and his final three years of high school.
