Nearly 15 years after the debut of the first book in the series, Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight Saga has quickly resurfaced in popularity. Shortly after the announcement of a new addition to the series, the topic was trending on Twitter and reignited the passion many fans had towards both the novels and the movies years ago. Midnight Sun is set to release in bookstores on Aug. 4, which Meyer announced while she was featured on a segment of the talk show Good Morning America. 

“I hope this book gives my readers a little pleasure to anticipate and, if it arrives, a chance to live in an imaginary world for a while,” Meyer said. “I can’t express how much I appreciate the patience of my readers and their support over the years it took to finish Midnight Sun.” 

The plot of the upcoming book will take place both slightly before and during the timeframe of the first book. This book is set apart from the others, though, as it is narrated from the point of view of the main love interest Edward rather than the main character Bella who narrates the first three and a half books of the series. 

With the upcoming book currently ranked in the top 25 on Amazon and the sixth highest-selling book on the Barnes and Noble website, it is sure to be a hit. According to Amazon, the original Twilight Saga sold 160 million copies. 

Numbers aside, the Twilight fan base has been very quick to reciprocate the feelings that Meyer displayed with her announcements of the new book on her website, as well as her time on live TV. Now inching even closer to the release date of the book, many fans are expressing their excitement. 

“We are officially less than one month away from the release of the book midnight Sun and I can not wait,” Twitter user Arlina Copley said. 

The excitement regarding the new book has come with a lot of revisits to the original Twilight Saga. The first book of the Saga recently climbed to one of the top 500 selling books on Barnesandnoble.com. This surge in sales along with many fans watching the Twilight movie franchise might be driven by the desire of fans to prepare for the upcoming book. 

With the large time gap between when the first book was released and now, many of the fans who have tuned in since day one are quite a bit older. This gap also leads to a brand new group of teens discovering the series for the first time. Amazon Prime Video has also recently included the Twilight movie franchise in their view with a subscription library, making the movies even more readily available for those who are more fond of watching than reading the series. 

It would be pretty hard to find a better time for the release of this new book. With the current state of the world, there are many people left with a lot of time on their hands. 

“I don’t know how everyone else is coping, but right now books are my main solace and happiest escape,” Meyer said. 

This teen targeted fantasy romance novel is the perfect escape for many students who are currently out of school, and it will have a new generation of fans facing the choice between team Edward or team Jacob.
